AI rank tracking
AI rank tracking monitors where your brand appears in AI-generated answers for a fixed set of prompts, run repeatedly over time. Instead of a single rank, it measures mention rate, position in the answer, citations and share of voice. Because answers vary run to run, results are samples, not fixed rankings.
How is AI rank tracking different from rank tracking?
Classic rank tracking records a URL’s position for a keyword. AI answers are generated, vary between runs and may cite several sources, so trackers sample answers instead. The GEO paper sampled five responses per query.[1]
What metrics does AI rank tracking report?
- Mention rate: share of prompts naming you.
- Position: where in the answer you appear.
- Citations of your URLs.
- Share of voice vs competitors.
- Sentiment.
Semrush runs Prompt Tracking daily;[2] Peec AI reports Visibility, Position and Sentiment.[3]
Which first-party data exists?
Google Search Console’s Generative AI report[4] and Bing’s AI Performance report[5] give first-party data for their engines. Other engines provide referral traffic only.
