GEO examples
GEO examples show how a page is changed to be easier for AI answers to use: putting a direct answer first, adding a sourced statistic, citing a primary source, or quoting an expert. The GEO paper tested methods like these and reported gains of up to 40% in its benchmark; later research found weaker effects, so test changes.
Example 1: direct answer first
Before: three paragraphs of background before the definition. After: a one-sentence definition in the first paragraph, then detail. This mirrors the question-answer structure of AI responses.
Example 2: add a sourced statistic
Before: “Most searches don’t get clicks.” After: “SparkToro’s 2024 study found 58.5% of US Google searches ended without a click.”[1] The GEO paper’s “Statistics Addition” method was among its stronger performers.[2]
Example 3: cite and quote primary sources
Before: “Google says no special markup is needed.” After: quote Google: “There’s also no special schema.org structured data that you need to add.”[3] The GEO paper tested “Cite Sources” and “Quotation Addition.”[2]
Do these examples work?
C-SEO Bench found most content-rewriting methods largely ineffective in its setup.[4] See GEO replications.
