People Also Ask

From Search Visibility Wiki · By the · Published · Last reviewed · How we research

People Also Ask (PAA) is Google’s “related questions group”: a cluster of questions related to the original search. When a user expands a question, Google shows a featured snippet answering it. Google says you can’t control what appears there, but the questions are a useful guide to topics to cover.

What does Google say People Also Ask is?

Google’s visual elements gallery describes a related questions group as “a cluster of questions that are related to what the user initially searched for (also known as ‘People Also Ask’). When a user expands the question, they’re shown a featured snippet.” It adds: “While you can’t control what shows up here, it can be helpful to pay attention to the related search queries when you’re thinking about topics you could write about.”[1]

How do you appear in People Also Ask?

Because expanded PAA answers are featured snippets, the same rules apply: Google’s systems decide, and you can’t mark a page as a featured snippet.[2] Write a clear, direct answer to the question on an indexable page. See featured snippets.

Can you stop your content appearing in PAA?

Yes, with snippet controls: nosnippet blocks all snippets including featured snippets, and lowering max-snippet makes featured snippets less likely.[2]

Does FAQ schema help with People Also Ask?

No documented link. Since August 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health sites.[3] See FAQ schema.

Can PAA questions guide AEO content?
