AI visibility score

From Search Visibility Wiki · By the · Published · Last reviewed · How we research

An AI visibility score is a vendor metric summarizing how often and how prominently a brand appears in AI answers for a set of prompts. There is no standard formula. Semrush, for example, compares your brand mentions with the median of top competitors. Use one tool’s score to track trends, not to compare across vendors.

How do vendors calculate it?

Semrush’s AI Visibility Score compares a brand’s mentions with the median of top competitors.[1] Peec AI’s Visibility metric is based on the share of prompts in which a brand appears.[2] The prompt set strongly shapes the result.

Why do scores differ between tools?

See visibility score for the classic SEO equivalent.

How should you use an AI visibility score?

Fix the prompt set, track the trend, and pair it with first-party data (Search Console, Bing, referral traffic). See search visibility KPIs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good AI visibility score?

There is no universal benchmark; compare against your competitors in the same tool.

Can I calculate my own score?

Yes: mention rate across a fixed prompt set, optionally weighted by position.

Is it the same as share of voice?

Related; share of voice expresses your share relative to competitors.
